Hi Friends!
We’re already three weeks into Mental Health Awareness Month (MHAM) and if you ask anyone who works in this space, they will probably tell you IT’S SO WILD THAT THEIR MENTAL HEALTH gets put on the back burner.
As someone who preaches wellness tips and taking breaks and pauses and setting boundaries (all of those THINGS!), I have found myself feeling like I need to take a deep inhale and just close my eyes. I know it's not just me—it's something so many others face, whether it is balancing work with family, starting your own business, juggling the day job WHILE building your dream, WHATEVER IT IS. Burnout has become increasingly prevalent. The problem is that sustained periods of stress and overwork can lead to physical and mental exhaustion, which affects productivity and overall well-being. NOT A GOOD THING.
To counteract this, I wanted to share my 5 simple tips that you can incorporate into your day to avoid burnout in your workplace environment—and your life in general.
Take Regular Breaks. Taking short breaks throughout the day can help you avoid burnout by giving your mind and body a chance to rest and recharge. Step away from your desk, take a short walk, or engage in some other activity that helps you relax and refocus. Try doing my favorite: place one hand on your heart and one on your stomach and conscious breathing for 60 seconds. It works WONDERS!
Use Your Day Planner. I love to-do lists, but I also know they can sometimes make you feel like you are accomplishing NOTHING. Scheduling things into your day planner or google calendar will help keep you accountable (even if it's scheduling a break or a workout) and ensure you are taking care of yourself.
Prioritize Self-Care. Prioritizing self-care is crucial for avoiding burnout. Make time for activities that help you relax and recharge, such as exercise, meditation, or spending time with loved ones. Taking care of your physical and mental health can help you stay energized and focused, even in the face of stress and pressure. GO WORK OUT. Take a walk. Hug your kitten.
Maintain Boundaries. Maintaining boundaries between your work and personal life can help you avoid burnout. Set clear limits on when you will be available for work-related tasks and stick to them. This approach helps you maintain a healthy work-life balance and ensures that you have time to pursue personal interests and hobbies outside of work. AKA SAY NO. Your best and highest self will thank you.
Get Help. Seeking support from and talking to loved ones can help you avoid burnout. We all need a sounding board for our concerns and challenges! Talking through problems with others can help you gain perspective and find solutions to difficult situations. Additionally, seeking professional help from a therapist or counselor can be beneficial in managing stress and avoiding burnout. If you are looking for a therapist, BETTER HELP is one of my favorite companies (if you use the code BRITTTURPACK at checkout, you will receive 10 percent off your first month of services).
In a world where hustle culture often glorifies overwork, it's vital to prioritize your well-being and avoid burnout in the workplace. By implementing these simple strategies—taking breaks, using your day planner, prioritizing self-care, maintaining boundaries, and seeking support—you can create a harmonious work-life balance that allows you to excel professionally while nurturing your mental and physical health. Remember, your well-being matters, and taking care of yourself is the key to sustained success and fulfillment—AND TO FEELING LIKE YOUR BEST, MOST CONFIDENT SELF.
