I want to talk to you about when times are tough. When you are facing heartbreak or hardship of any kind, it can be difficult to maintain your calm and maintain balance.
The most important thing I want to say is you are not alone. If you have loved ones, I encourage you to reach out for support. It can be so helpful to talk about what you're going through to someone who cares. (There is also the 988 crisis line for mental health support and the NAMI community also has support groups for those who are experiencing mental health struggles.) Related: if you know someone is going through something painful, you can be the one to reach out to them and check in with kind words or actions.
Staying committed to your self-care practices can also be challenging when we are experiencing difficulties. This is when we need it most. Because sometimes sitting still and meditating can be challenging during stressful times, I like to turn to metta meditation, also known as loving-kindness meditation. This can be helpful in times of uncertainty or when you are worried about loved ones.
The practice is simple and involves repeating these phrases: May I be happy. May I be healthy. May I be safe. May I be at ease. Then you turn it outward: May you be happy. May you be healthy. May you be safe. May you be at ease.
No matter what is going on, this is a practice that can help you feel like you are making a difference.
