As a teacher, I find the “teach what you need” saying to be so true. Probably because we are motivated to figure out solutions. Work and life has been abundant and full for me lately—and most importantly, FUN. But slowing down, finding moments of stillness and honoring when rest is necessary, is so important for me right now.
Despite all of the wonderful things in my life, it can sometimes feel like I’m in a never-ending race, rushing from one commitment to the next. It is especially true when the demands of work, family responsibilities, and personal goals combine to make LIFE feel so fast and non-stop, even in the best of ways. Busyness is oftentimes looked at like a badge of honor and what we fail to recognize is that our minds and bodies are not machines—no matter how much coffee you have ;)
To maintain wellness, we need time to recharge, rejuvenate, and reset. That means WE NEED SELF-CARE PRACTICES. This is why I LIVE FOR SELF-CARE PRACTICES… they are the chargers for our batteries. Without them, we face stress and burnout and won’t be able to thrive.
One more thing to think about in your busy and chaotic life, I KNOW. To help you, here are 4 ways you can prioritize rest.
Schedule Breaks: Just as you schedule meetings and appointments, schedule regular breaks into your day. Use tools like timers or apps to remind yourself to step away for a break.
Disconnect: During your breaks, disconnect from work and digital devices. Engage in activities that relax and rejuvenate you, such short walks, meditation, or deep breathing exercises.
Set Boundaries: Establish clear boundaries for your work and personal life. Avoid overcommitting and learn to say NO when necessary.
Practice Self-Care: Make self-care a non-negotiable part of your routine. This can include committing to your hobbies, exercise, spending time with loved ones, or simply enjoying a good book.
There is no way around this fact: If you want to reduce stress, enhance creativity, and improve your overall well-being, you need to TAKE BREAKS. By making rest a priority and recognizing its importance, we can navigate the chaos with greater resilience and satisfaction. Remember, taking time to rest is not a sign of weakness; it's a sign of strength and wisdom.
